1/2" - 1'0" Scale Model, Foam Board, Glue, Paper, Wood, Foam Clay, Acetate Sheets, Tissue Paper, Paint Pens, Alcohol Markers, Built and Repurposed Model Furniture
This model, created for The Cottage by Sandy Rustin, depicts a 1920s complicated love affair intermingling within a English cottage with its own scandalous secrets. The set design, props, and construction was heavily researched and meticulously designed. From reading the play multiple times, hunting for period accurate references of furniture and scenery, to finally creating the model itself many dedicated hours were put towards this project. Drawn costume designs were also created in addition to this scale model, which can be found under Digital Works.
Various Sizes, 13 Pieces, Acrylic Paint, Gloss Medium, Upholstery Foam, Foam Clay, Caulking
These pieces of bread were made from pieces of upholstery foam, carved and shaved down into shape. Once the shape was how I wanted it, the foam breads were then coated with silicone-latex caulking in order to seal it in prep for paint. Acrylic paints were then used to make the bread look as realistic and lifelike as possible, multiple viewers mistaking it for real bread.
Size, Acrylic Paint, Paint Pen, Upholstry Foam, EVA Foam Sheet, Caulking, Glossy Mod Podge
Starting with a large chunk of upholstery foam, a fish shape was carved out using an electric knife and scissors. Once the main body of the fish was created, fins cut from EVA foam were hot glued into slots and the mackerel was then coated in caulking. After many layers of the caulking, the fish was ready to be painted, first with gradients, before the final marks and details being made with a paint pen. The whole fish was then coated in glossy mod podge to get its classic wet shine.
